Naomi Nahaolelua Munekata

September 12, 1928 - February 4, 2013

Naomi Nahaolelua Munekata 84, of Kailua, Oahu and Hilo, Hawaii, a retired teacher who taught at Kalaheo H.S. and Kailua Intermediate School died at Maluhia Long Term Care Center. Born and raised in Honolulu, Naomi was the fourth daughter of Len Ing and Henry Kia Nahaolelua. Naomi raised three children while finishing her degree at the University of Hawaii. A busy and organized wife and mother, she taught at Laie Intermediate, Kailua Intermediate and at Kalaheo High School. In her own words upon retirement: "I've accomplished the work, and still maintained by sanity and good humor." Not content with a quiet retirement, she started substitute teaching. She began a new career in real estate after she and Yoshio moved to Hilo. Naomi loved to travel; across the U.S., Canada, Japan, Philippines, China and especially trips to Vegas! Some of our happiest memories with mom are of small kid times together at Kailua Beach, Kahuku camping, Christmas holidays in Hilo, Kapoho beach fishing and swimming, mall shopping, singing songs, and so many other good fun times. He warm smile, easygoing manner, and generous spirit brought joy and laughter to our home and to our lives. She is survived by daughters, Moana L. (John) Vierra and Myra N. (Chad Taniguchi) Munekata; son Mark (Sandy), grandchildren: Eric and (Raina Gill) Vierra; Mitchell and (Milika'a) Vierra, and Matthew Vierra; Alana Taniguchi and (Alexsandro Arasawa) and Todd Taniguchi; Michah Kahana Ola Munekata, Mia Ualani Munekata and Nani Anlea Munekata; and great grandchildren Makamae, Kamakana, Kala'ikumana and Leihiwa Vierra and Elis Emalani Arasawa.
