Richard "Dickie" DePonte, Sr. 82, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2018 at Pearl City Nursing Home where he lived for the past 12 years. He was born in Honolulu on February 23, 1936. "Dickie" was a federal firefighter at Barbers Point and Ford Island. He served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1958. Our dad was prankster, joker, humble, friendly, kindhearted, loving, gentle, strong, passionate, dedicated to my mom and his children and grandchildren, loved sports. His daughter and sons say of their dad: Our dad never needed to say much. His actions and the way he lived his life taught us the value and importance of being a good person. He never lost his temper with my mom and was a wonderful husband to her. We didn't have much as kids yet we never went without. Our dad provided us with everything we needed. His love and dedication to his family were his top priority, always. In his 12 years in the nursing home, he rarely ever complained and though bedridden, still managed to keep his sense of humor. Our dad is our hero. He is survived by brother Donald (Wanda) DePonte and his 4 children Vanessa (Cary) Brockman, Rick (Celena) DePonte Jr., Darrell (Kathy) DePonte, Mike (Reyna) DePonte and 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mass will be held on July 23 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Pauoa Committal Service with Military Honors will be held the same day at 1pm at Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery.
